The highlight of the auction is "The Theater Visit," an ivory fan featuring a concealed enamel watch made for The Qing Royal family. Offered for the first time at auction, the unique and magnificent fan is attributed to James Cox. Made circa 1785, it is a very rare gold, enamel, pearl and ruby set pocket watch with center seconds. The lavishly jeweled case and the center seconds suggest that this watch was marketed for export to China. Although made in Switzerland, the piece is signed "Jaquet Droz London" as many other of his pieces destined for the Far East at the time; a clever business strategy by Droz since pieces from London were regarded as superior quality and commanded higher prices .
