INDUSTRY NEWS - LVMH Watch Division to Participate at Baselworld

BVLGARI announces its withdrawal from Baselworld for the next edition in 2020.

The LVMH Group confirms the presence of its entire watch division with its brands TAG Heuer, Hublot and Zenith.

"We deeply regret Bvlgari's decision to withdraw from the next edition of Baselworld," says Michel Loris-Melikoff, Managing Director of Baselworld. "We continue to work closely with the Watch Division of the LVMH Group and each of its three brands TAG Heuer, Hublot and Zenith. We work closely with Stéphane Bianchi and his team to offer the best business platform to the Group's brands with pragmatic cost control."

Stéphane Bianchi, President of the Watch Division of the LVMH Group said: "The Watchmaking Division of the LVMH Group with TAG Heuer, Hublot, and Zenith remains committed to Baselworld in 2020. We believe in the importance of a major event for the Swiss watch industry and look forward to a successful fair, both in terms of image and sales, for our three Maisons."

"We are obviously disappointed not to participate in 2020, but as told already in past, we remain open for 2021 onwards to continue with Baselworld and we will take our decision by June 2019 once Baselworld 2021 concept, dates and costs will be clarified. We also wish to continue to collaborate as much a possible with LVMH Watch Division from fairs to roadshows of events such as we did In Dubai this year" commented Jean-Christophe Babin CEO of Bvlgari.

Michel Loris-Melikoff, Managing Director of Baselworld adds: "We are building Baselworld with a fresh approach in collaboration with our partners. Our Baselworld 2020+ concept of a platform of experiences and the building of a large community active throughout the year is meeting with a very positive response not only from our exhibitors, but also from all the key players in the sector with whom we are implementing it.

With regard to the Coronavirus, we are monitoring the evolution of the situation very closely with the authorities. To date, in Europe, all conferences and shows scheduled to be held around the same time frame as Baselworld 2020, are going ahead as planned (with no cancellations currently on record).

We are currently recording growth in all sectors, including watchmaking, with many establishments joining or returning (several dozen) to the show thanks to the different formats that we have put in place this year. Listening, dialogue, creativity: the positive dynamic is once again in motion. The Gems & Pearls sector is also making a significant comeback with 50% growth, and the Technical sector is regaining confidence with 100% growth also this year, the upshot of a long and comprehensive collaboration with all the players."

Baselworld is pleased to announce that it will host the prestigious Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo at its next edition. Phillips is the world's leading auction house in the watch market, exceeding 110 million Swiss Francs in 2019, and breaking several world records including several watches over 1 million Swiss Francs.

Frederique Constant presents two new variations on its Flyback Chronograph Manufacture collection. This timepiece was developed, manufactured and assembled in its entirety in-house at their Geneva manufacture. The flyback module accounts for just 96 of the entire movement's 233 parts, making it one of the most efficient flyback modules in the world, as well as one of the most affordable, thanks to its ingenious, patented construction.



Technical Specifications:
The case, in stainless steel or in steel rose gold PVD, measures 42mm. It has a glass box sapphire crystal, a display back, and it is water resistant to 50 meters.



Movement is the Swiss automatic Frederique Constant in-house caliber FC-760 with 32 jewels, 28,800 vph and a power reserve of 38 hours. It features perlage and circular Côtes de Genève decoration. The FC-760 caliber replaces the standard column wheel with a star-shaped wheel. This results in a thinner movement with fewer parts and operations. The FC-760 caliber is simpler, smoother and more reliable. Pressing the pusher at 4 o'clock declutches the chronograph's movement and resets it. Once the pusher is released, the movement and the chronograph re-engage and the chronograph restarts.



Dials can be had in chocolate brown with applied rose gold plated indeces and hand-polished rose gold plated hands; or in navy blue with applied silver indices with hand-polished silver hands. Luminous hands with contrasting sub-dials.



It comes on a dark brown or blue alligator leather strap with a steel deployant clasp.

The case, in stainless steel, measures 39.4mm x 12mm. It has an AR-coated sapphire crystal, a sapphire display back, and it is water resistant to 30 meters. Bezel with 64 brilliant-cut diamonds.

Movement is the German automatic G.O. in-house caliber 90-12 with 47 jewels, 28,800 vph and a power reserve of 42 hours. Exquisitely finished movement with Glashütte three-quarter plate with stripe finish, a screw balance, duplex swan-neck fine adjustment, and skeletonized rotor done in 21kt gold. Rotor with bevelled edges, polished steel parts, blued screws, and balance bridge engraved by hand. Perlage finishing. Functions are: hours, minutes, and small seconds (off-center), Panorama date, and moonphase.



It has a white mother-of-pearl dial, printed in lilac. Diamond-set rod indeces and lilac Arabic numerals forming a heart at the center. Moonphase display with elaborately crafted moon disc, made in Pforzheim. The two silver-colored moons are first cut out with a milling tool. The surface of the moons are then polished with a diamond tool, giving them a unique brilliance. The special feature of this display, perceptible only upon closer inspection, are the little hearts in the night sky, which take up the symbol of love. 18 brilliant-cut diamonds. The dial is made in G.O.'s own dial manufactory in Pforzheim, fashioned from the inner layer of sea shells. To protect the razor-thin material from breakage it is mounted on a thin disc of German silver.

It comes on a purple Louisiana alligator leather strap with a steel pin buckle.

The ref. IW515301 is the 14th Laureus special edition from IWC and the first Portugieser with a monopusher chronograph. This year, the jury selected a drawing by 15-year old Yi Xin from China as the winning entry with a moving portrayal of friendship.

This Laureus-supported project offers training in Olympic sports disciplines for children and adults with mental disabilities.

In 1953, Breitling launched its Ref. 765 AVI, a pilot's watch (AVI stood for "aviation") known as the "Co-Pilot". It had a particularly bold look with a rotating bezel and oversized Arabic numerals, and its legibility made it a favorite among aviators. Breitling is honoring this classic chronograph's legacy with the AVI Ref. 765 1953 Re-Edition.



This model is the brand's second historical re-edition. The first, the Navitimer Ref. 806 1959 Re-Edition. Georges Kern knows that the new watch will enjoy the same enthusiastic reception as the previous Re-Edition, saying: "It was always clear to us that long- time Breitling fans would embrace these watches. But it's also exciting to see how strongly they appeal to people who are new to our brand they can take one look at a Re-Edition and see how much living history, innovation, and cool luxury we can pack into a single watch."

In 2020, Breguet adorns the dial of its extra-thin automatic Tourbillon with a touch of deep blue, by using the traditional grand feu enamel technique. There are a limited number of artisans still capable of mastering this age-old process, which was dear to Abraham-Louis Breguet, as he appreciated the spotless aspect it conferred on watches. Today, Breguet keeps this art alive with a workshop entirely dedicated to enamelling.



Technical Specifications:
The case, in platinum with a finely fluted caseband, measures 41mm x 7.45mm. It has double sapphire crystals, welded lugs with screw-secured bars, and it is water resistant to 30 meters.



Movement is the Swiss automatic extra-thin (3 mm) Breguet in-house caliber 581 with 33 jewels, 28,800 vph and a ower reserve of 80 hours. Numbered and signed Breguet. Barrel mounted on roller bearings. Inverted lateral lever escapement with silicon horns. Silicon balance spring. Small seconds on the tourbillon axis.



Placed between 4 and 6 o'clock, the tourbillon is housed in a titanium carriage that features a made-to-measure escapement and a silicon Breguet balance spring that oscillates at a frequency of four hertz, which is particularly high for a tourbillon balance spring. Pre-Basel 2020 - Bell & Ross BR03-92 Grey Lum

Bell & Ross launched its Lum line in 2017 with the BR03‑92 Horolum. The brand has since unveiled other new models in the same category including the BR03-94 Horolum and BR03-92 Nightlum and, more recently, the BR03-92 Full Lum. The suffix "LUM" in their name means lumière (light) and refers to one of the fundamental qualities of Bell & Ross watches, their legibility.



Those models, with micro-blasted steel or matte ceramic cases, have exceptional display qualities thanks to the application of SuperLuminova C3. It does not deteriorate over time, has no clear toxic effects linked to radioactivity and maintains a constant daytime color. Named after the most brilliant of astronomical entities - the Quasar it is an epic masterpiece with gleaming aerial views of the Manufacture's most iconic movement encased in Swiss-made sapphire. Sculpting and polishing its curves to produce such extreme transparency required over 200 hours of work and hundreds of operations with techniques perfected over two centuries.

It has an engraved white gold micro-rotor, a Ruthenium barrel, and bridges made of sapphire. Tourbillon cage composed of 79 components weighing 0.250 grams. The A-15 Pilot Watch is inspired by the 1944 Military Issue A-15 "Elapsed Time Watch" and incorporates unique features of the original. It was designed to meet the specific requirements of pilots navigating by radio aids, dead reckoning or pilotage. The watch was developed with an incorporated elapsed time feature and a luminous dial.

INDUSTRY NEWS - Miralem Pjanić joins Corum as Brand Ambassador

Corum is pleased to announce that Miralem Pjanić who plays as one of the best midfielder for Serie A club Juventus and the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team, has joined the Swiss watchmaker as a Brand Ambassador.

Pjanić was born on 2 April 1990 in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina, in what was then Yugoslavia. His family eventually moved to Luxembourg.

While playing football in Luxembourg, he drew interest from several Belgian, Dutch and German clubs, but in 2004 at the age of 13, the talented teenager made the decision and took the risk to leave his family to join FC Metz in France. Rising quickly through Metz's Academy, he made his professional debut at the age of 17 in 2007. Following this Pjanić transferred to another French club Olympique Lyonnaise in 2008 and joined AS Roma in 2011.

During his time in Rome, Pjanić established himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A finishing his best season in with 10 goals and 12 assists. While at Roma he was nicknamed "il Piccolo Principe" (The Little Prince).

Having caught the eye of Juventus F.C. in 2016, Pjanić signed for 32 million Euros and has since been an integral part of their team, winning three Serie A's, two Coppa Italia's, and for 4 years in a row has been included in the Serie A Team of the Year. He was also named in the 201617

Limited Edition of 5 Pieces: Tribute to Pablo Picasso

The case, in stainless steel case, brushed and polished, with 3 grooves, filled with solid 18kt red gold wires, measures 41mm x 41mm x 12.5mm. It has an AR-coated sapphire crystal, a sapphire display back, and it is water resistant to 30 meters.



Movement is the Swiss manual-wind Concepto caliber 8950 with 23 jewels, 28,800 vph and a power reserve of 50 hours. It is hand-engraved and with blued screws. Functions are: hours, minutes, and seconds on the tourbillon bridge.



The dial features two faces of men and women. The face of the woman is shown by curves: soft, pleasant, a little bit withdrawn. The face of the man taking up most of the circle: dominating, jagged, rough. Thus the dial is divided into two parts. On the left side there are sectors with curvy lines and elements, similar to a shape of a woman. The sector between 9 and 10 o'clock is engraved by hand and reminds of a diamond mine. The right-hand side reminds of a man - with more straight and sharp contours. Some sectors are enameled by hand, some are covered with mother-of-pearl. The borders of the sectors correspond with the hour markers. The round central part of the dial is surrounded by a round-angular ring. This shows the minutes as well as the alphabet on a chessboard pattern.

It comes on a red Louisiana alligator leather strap with a steel deployant buckle.
