Bell & Ross has decided to pay tribute to the American pilots who fought under the French flag during the First World War and to commemorate the centenary of the La Fayette Squadron with the exclusive BR03-92 EDC 2/4 La Fayette model.
In 1916, the "American Squadron", made up of young volunteers born on the other side of the Atlantic was soon known as "La Fayette Escadrille", in honor of Gilbert du Motier de La Fayette who came from France in 1777 to support American rebels who were fighting for their independence. These American volunteers decided, in 1914, to join the Foreign Legion to fight for justice and freedom at a time when the United States had not yet even entered the war. It took almost 18 months for these ardent supporters of France and its values to be able to become fighter pilots under French command, whilst keeping their nationality. Placed under the orders of Captain Georges Thénault, they offered their lives to the glory of the N124 "Sioux" squadron which occupies a legendary place in the history of the First World War.
The La Fayette squadron, also nicknamed the Sioux squadron due to the decoration on its planes, continued its existence over the next few decades, in Indochina and during subsequent conflicts where France was involved. In 1947 it was re-named 2/4 La Fayette fighter squadron.
Technical Specifications:
The case, in stainless steel, measures 42mm. It has an AR-coated sapphire crystal and it is water resistant to 100 meters.
Movement is the Swiss automatic Bell & Ross caliber 302 (base Sellita) with 25 jewels, 28,800 vph and a power reserve of 38 hours. Functions are: hours, minutes, cemtral seconds and date.
The dial is black with luminous hands, Arabics and markers. It bears the insignia of the La Fayette squadron, the head of an American Indian Sioux.
It comes on a black leather or synthetic fabric strap, with a steel buckle.
