The concept behind the "Alpina 4" was to combine the 4 essential features that defined a sports watch, in one single timepiece:
1. Anti-magnetic, 2. Anti-shock, 3. Water-resistant and 4. Stainless
The case, in stainless steel, measures 44mm. It has a bi-directional compass bezel, a sapphire crystal, and it is water resistant to 100 meters.
Movement is the Swiss automatic Alpina caliber AL550 with 26 jewels, 28,800 vph and a power reserve of 38 hours. It features a GMT complication. You set local time by independently moving the hour hand from hour to hour, while the 24 hour hand always displays home time.
The dial can be had in black or silver sunray, with applied luminous indeces and luminous nickel hands. The 24 hour scale has been decorated with a distinctive red and blue "Pepsi" color scheme that indicates business-opening hours.
It comes on a black or brown leather strap with red lining and a steel buckle.
